We’ve got an official (and exciting!) company announcement.

Here’s the skinny:

  • There were some challenges with the name Foundry and with our big launch coming up (so soon!), we felt that now was the time to change names.
  • So we’re changing the name from Foundry to Adalo —  pronounced Ahh-DAH-Low and inspired by the first computer programmer Ada Lovelace! (more details about her below).
  • Don’t worry, it’s still the same amazing team and product. We’re just changing names.

Here’s the full story:

Back in December, we came up with the name Foundry as a way to convey that anyone could use building blocks to create an app (just like you’d use molds to make things in a real foundry). And at the time, this seemed like a solid concept, it was short & simple, and we couldn’t really find any other major company named Foundry. Perfect right?

Well, over time we started to hear comments like “Oh I've heard of you all before! … no wait … that’s someone else.” We’d get questions like “I can’t seem to find your site on Google. What’s the URL?”  And there was confusion over Foundry vs Foundry Platform. (We’d even get people that would accidentally link our logo to the wrong site!)

On their own, these events didn’t seem that bad. But as they started to pile up, our concerns grew. And after talking with some SEO experts, we became even more aware of the sheer amount of companies named Foundry—we found countless local Foundries as well as other companies in our space with Foundry in their name.

Admittedly a little terrified to change names, we decided that if we were going to do it, we had better do it now.

Fast forward through the process of actually coming up with and deciding on a new name – we ended up landing on Adalo. Ada Lovelace is widely considered to be the world's first computer programmer. She had a vision that computers shouldn’t just help mathematicians but instead, that they should help solve everyday problems. So with that, we hope to carry on her innovative spirit and usher in a new era where anyone to create computer programs and solve problems once thought to be impossible.

Our platform, our blog, and all of your apps are now all available at our shiny new domain: Adalo.com. We’re happy to answer any questions you have! Email us at hello@adalo.com

P.S. If you’re interested in learning more about why this is actually our company’s fourth name or if you want some tips on how to avoid the mistakes we made along the way…  we’ve got just the article for you.
